The “Chronicle of Irrigation” conference, organized by PORAGUA and held in the municipality of Carrión de los Condes, brought together farmers, technicians and experts from the water and agricultural sector this Wednesday to analyze the challenges and opportunities facing irrigation in Spain. With a focus on sustainability, technological innovation and adaptation to climate changes, the event sought to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The day began with an opening presentation by representatives of the local and regional administration, who highlighted the importance of efficient water management in an agricultural community. Next, several round tables were held in which key topics were addressed such as the modernization of irrigation infrastructure, energy efficiency and technological alternatives to optimize the use of water resources.
During the event, the climate challenges that affect the region and how water scarcity forces a change in traditional farming systems were also raised. Agricultural meteorology experts shared forecasts on how climate change will impact planting seasons and water needs, sparking debate about the need for adaptive strategies and support policies for farmers.
At the end of the day, attendees participated in a dialogue table where ideas were exchanged about the joint management of water resources and emphasis was placed on collaboration between administrations, farmers and sectoral organizations to face the challenges of irrigation. The day concluded with a collective commitment to seek innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure the future of irrigation in the region.
“Chronicle of Irrigation” closed with a positive balance and left a clear message: irrigation is an essential engine for rural development, and adapting it to current times requires cooperation, innovation and public policies committed to the environment.
